SHORT BIO

Having finished a master’s degree in Music Studies and attaining a diploma in classical piano, Christina

went on to study Jazz singing at the Athenaeum Conservatory. She attended private courses with singers Irini Konstantinidi and Tamuz Nissim, and extended masterclasses for voice and performance with famous vocal instructors such as Spiros Sakkas and Mirka Yementzaki. Her current vocal instructor is the amazing teacher and mezzo soprano Rosa Poulimenou.

This year (2016) she received a full scholarship for a Master in Jazz Performance in Ionios University under the teaching and constant  guidance of great Saxophonist Dimos Dimitradis and piano / organ master George Kontrafouris. She is also teaching jazz singing to  the bachelor singers and also giving workshops in Biodynamics (for further info about Biodynamics see teaching page).

She attended seminars with Jay Clayton, Diane Schuur, Jean Michel-Pilc, Mark Whitfield, Petros Klampanis, Eric Ineke and Rosario Giuliani. Since 2012 she is an active Jazz singer playing with many professional musicians from Greece and the globe, such as Mark Whitfield, Leonardo Corradi, Bob Wijnen, George Kontrafouris, Sami Amiris, Dimos Dimitriadis, Yannis Loukatos among others.

She has  recently finished her first composition for a small ensemble. Her vision for music apllies in collectivity of playing, the interplay and sharing of a common artistic ground, so people can register in their bodies and minds life as an endless form of art. History, social struggle, inner perceptions of the imaginary, worksongs and subconscious are her main interestests of research that she wishes to apply in music and in education.

Christina Syriopoulou is performer, member and trainee of the International Laboratory of Performing Arts- AlmaKalma. She is giving seminars in Greece and abroad to singers and musicians, where she applies the basic exercises of biodynamics, helping people to decode organic movement.

She continues her research on the abilities of the "singing body" and is closely linked to traditional music, where she investigates the different "glossolalia", that is the different vocal resonators a body produces in relation with the roots of every place.

She has worked as a performer, pianist and vocals singer for the band ‘Dirty Granny Tales’ performing in several countries.

Since 2007 she works as music teacher in the private primary school ‘Ionios Sholi’, organizing choir and orchestra, voice and drama in the theater club.

She holds a BA in music studies and MA in Musicology/ Music education of Aristotle University .
